US may create its health agency alternative to WHO

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not rule out that the country would create its agency to deal with international health operations, to prevent what it sees as the WHO failing the world, Report says, citing Fox Business.

The journalist asked Pompeo whether the White House would create an analog of who. The Secretary of state replied evasively but did not rule out the possibility.

"We know how to run international health operations, and we're determined to find a good way so that we can be, as we have always been, the leader in global health policy that's saved lives all across the world. The WHO didn't accomplish what its intended mission was, and as the president says about multilateral organizations, if they work, fine. If they don't, we're simply not going to be part of it."

According to Pompeo, the US presidential administration is currently considering "what further actions are best". He clarified that Donald Trump had set a clear goal: not to allow "WHO to fail again."

As for the World Health Organization, Pompeo said it is unacceptable to continue to "put hundreds of millions of American dollars to the World Health Organization if it's not going to deliver."

Earlier, Trump blamed the WHO for the coronavirus outbreak.

On April 15, Washington suspended funding for WHO. The measure will remain in effect until "errors in response and concealment of the spread of the coronavirus" are investigated. The UN criticized the US' decision.
