UN chief voices solidarity after Venezuela quake

UN Secretary‑General António Guterres expressed deep solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake and said the organization is ready to assist the country, Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodríguez announced on Telegram, Report informs.
She noted that in their recent phone call, Guterres offered condolences over the tragedy, which resulted in numerous casualties and the declaration of a National Day of Mourning.
According to Rodríguez, Guterres expressed deep solidarity with the Venezuelan people and said that the UN system and its specialized agencies are ready to mobilize all resources to assist Venezuela.
The earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24. Two tremors of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded about 40 seconds apart, with epicenters located 10 kilometers from Yaracuy state.
Around 30 aftershocks followed the main quake. According to recent data, 235 people were killed, and 4,300 were injured.
The authorities declared a state of emergency and designated the coastal La Guaira state as a disaster zone.
