Sweden has allocated SEK 1.4 billion, or about $146 million, to a new World Bank crisis facility supporting Ukraine, Report informs, citing the Swedish government.
According to the government, the contribution will enable new loans totaling about SEK 4.2 billion, or $437 million, for Ukraine's reconstruction and recovery.
The funding will be channeled to the World Bank's Special Program for Ukraine Recovery 2.0 under the new IDA Crisis Facility 2.0. Sweden said every krona contributed could make it possible to lend up to three times that amount to Ukraine through the World Bank's balance sheet and borrowing on capital markets.
Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa said Ukraine needed extensive support to keep essential services running, including healthcare and electricity.
"Ukraine is defending not only its own freedom, but ours as well," he said.
The Swedish government said the World Bank has channeled more than $90 billion to Ukraine since February 2022 and remains an important partner in supporting the country's energy, healthcare, agriculture, education and transport sectors, as well as its reform efforts and path toward future EU membership.
The new contribution comes in addition to a guarantee announced by Sweden on May 29, 2026, which enabled new loans to Ukraine worth about SEK 2.5 billion, or $260 million.
