German chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Beijing to step up its pressure on Russia over its “brutal” war in Ukraine, as he hosted the new Chinese premier Li Qiang in Berlin on his first overseas visit, Report informs, citing Financial Times.
The German leader said that China needed to do more to use its “special role” over Vladimir Putin and stressed the need to avoid a “frozen conflict”.
“I have again appealed to the Chinese government to exert even more influence on Russia in this war,” Scholz said after a meeting with Premier Li.
