Protest held in Bastia against violence and Frances migration policy

In the city of Bastia on the French-administered island of Corsica, more than 100 people took part in a protest organized by the Forza Nova party, one of the political groups supporting Corsican independence.

According to Report, the protest was sparked by the murder of a 19-year-old Corsican who was stabbed by an illegal migrant.

Members of the victim"s family joined the demonstrators. They stated that the young man, named Francescu, had tried to resist the attacker along with friends but suffered severe, fatal injuries. Protest statements emphasized that Corsica would never become a territory of violence and chaos. Demonstrators" signs read: "We will be neither victims nor martyrs; we will always defend our land!"

Participants expressed support for the victim and his family, pledging to seek justice through legal channels. The protesters not only criticized French-appointed officials but also viewed their absence from the event as another example of France"s unjust policies toward Corsica. This stance was seen as a further sign of growing distrust between the central authorities and the island"s population.

The Corsicans" discontent stems from French government policies aimed at deliberately altering the island"s demographic composition. Under this policy, the government encourages the relocation of non-Corsican populations to Corsica, which weakens the local cultural and ethnic identity. This approach not only threatens Corsica"s historical and cultural uniqueness but also heightens social and political tensions, leading to increased ethnic and cultural conflicts on the island and a notable deterioration in public safety. The French government"s policy amplifies Corsicans" fear of becoming a minority on their own land and makes their demands for self-determination even more pressing.
