Oliver Varhelyi likely to join new European Commission lineup

Oliver Varhelyi, who has served as the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement for the past five years, is set to make a comeback in the new European Commission (EC).
In a post on the social media platform X, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1, revealed his choice.
"Following my recent consultation with Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen, my nominee for the EU Commission is once again Oliver Varhelyi. During the past five years Commissioner Varhelyi has proved that the EU can make a difference as a positive force in its neighborhood and beyond. He will do an excellent job in the upcoming Commission!"
