Moldova: Sandu announces presidential election victory

Pro-EU opposition candidate Maia Sandu has ousted incumbent Igor Dodon to become Moldova's new president.
As of 06:30 CET, Sandu had won 57.63% of the vote to Dodon's 48.37%, with more than 99.8 percent of the ballots counted, according to data released by the country's electoral commission.
As Vladimir Sharban, Deputy head of the Central Election Commission told a briefing earlier on Monday, incumbent President Igor Dodon received 42.2%.
"57.74% voted for the candidate Maia Sandu, while 42.26% voted for the independent candidate Igor Dodon. It remains to wait for data from the last polling station in Sacramento, but they can not affect the results, " said Sharban. According to him, the elections were held with a high turnout - 52%.
