Russia was expecting sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Al Jazeera, Report informs.
“However, we were surprised that these measures were imposed on athletes and media workers,” Lavrov said.
The minister said that Western countries refused to discuss the formation of the new security architecture of Europe with Russia.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the start of military operations in Ukraine. Since then, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other countries have imposed sanctions on Russian individuals and legal entities.
