Global coronavirus cases hit 20 million in August

In August 2021, the number of confirmed coronavirus infections worldwide increased by about 20 million, compared to 4.5 million in July.
The last high incidence was recorded in April this year, Report informs, citing TASS.
The epicenter of the pandemic is currently in North America and Asia. In some countries of Western Europe, where severe outbreaks were registered in the middle of summer, the situation has improved. However, the East, where the authorities have already started talking about the fourth wave, is experiencing surging infections.
As for coronavirus deaths, if in July, about 265,000 people died worldwide, in August, the death toll was about 300,000.
