Amid tensions in the Middle East, the Bundeswehr will deploy a Patriot surface-to-air missile system in southeastern Türkiye.
Report informs, citing a statement by the German Defense Ministry, that under the plan, the Patriot system and about 150 German troops from the city of Husum in Germany's federal land of Schleswig-Holstein will be deployed to Türkiye from late June until September.
They will replace a US army unit there.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany was taking on more responsibility within NATO. He said Berlin was doing so on the eastern flank, in the Far North and now on the alliance's southeastern flank in Türkiye.
The Bundeswehr last deployed Patriots in Türkiye from 2013 to 2015 as part of NATO's Active Fence mission, in the area of Kahramanmaraş, about 120 km from the Syrian border.
