European Commission agrees on proposal package targeting Israel

The European Commission has agreed on a package of proposals concerning Israel, Report informs.

The decision was announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič during a press conference summarizing the European Commission's latest session.

The proposals include sanctions against individual Israeli government ministers and the suspension of certain trade provisions of the EU-Mediterranean Agreement, in response to Israel's actions in Gaza.

"The goal is not to punish Israel, but to encourage it to change the situation in Gaza," Kallas emphasized.

Regarding trade, Israeli goods exported to the EU will lose preferential status and will instead be subject to the same tariffs as those applied to third countries without a free trade agreement with the bloc.
