EU voices concern over Israel’s Gaza operation, West Bank settlements

The European Union has expressed serious concern over Israel’s plans to expand its military operation in Gaza and to advance settlement construction in the E1 area of the West Bank, warning that such actions threaten the two-state solution, according to the EU’s foreign affairs spokesperson Anitta Hipper, Report informs.

At a briefing in Brussels, Hipper stated that the EU rejects any attempts at territorial or demographic changes in Gaza. "And when it comes to Hamas, also with a clear position that Hamas must have absolutely no role in the future governance and security in Gaza. And to this we have also statements on Gaza by foreign ministers and the high representative [Kaja Kallas],” she said.

Brussels has consistently maintained that such actions by Israeli authorities violate international law. The EU leadership has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access, and the release of all hostages.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen previously described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “horrific,” urging renewed efforts to protect civilians, especially children.

The EU is also considering sanctions against extremist settlers. “Diplomacy remains a key tool. But of course, we also have other options. Last week, we again discussed the ‘toolkit’ of potential actions, including sanctions targeting extremist settlers,” Hipper added.
