Denmark fails to form a new government

Venstre Party leader Troels Lund Poulsen has failed to reach an agreement on forming a new government.

The Ritzau news agency, cited by Report, the politician said he will report the failure of the negotiations to King Frederik X.

Troels Lund Poulsen was unable to secure a deal within the allotted 14-day deadline for coalition talks.

According to the agency, Moderates leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen refused to support a coalition involving Venstre, the Liberal Alliance, and the Conservative Party, despite earlier reports suggesting a possible agreement between them.

Poulsen was given 14 days to conduct negotiations, but an earlier attempt had also failed when acting Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen held six weeks of consultations following the March 24 elections.

Following the parliamentary elections in Denmark, no bloc secured a majority: the centre-left bloc holds 83 seats, the centre-right bloc has 78, while the Moderates hold 14 seats. Coalition talks continue amid an ongoing political stalemate.
