USD - 1.700 Euronews employees go on 24-hour strike

Employees of the international news channel Euronews, headquartered in Lyon, went on a 24-hour strike today, Report informs, referring to AFP.
According to the trade unions, they are protesting against the planned layoffs.
"This is the first general strike in the history of the channel. The staff actively supports this action," said a representative of the National Union of Journalists.
The cut plan, presented to the union by Euronews board chairman Michelle Peterson in November last year, was based on a significant drop in advertising revenue during the coronavirus pandemic. In total, 30-40 people will be laid off.
Euronews currently employs about 500 people.
