Marijana Kujundžić: EU is implementing several demining projects in Azerbaijan

The European Union is implementing a number of demining projects in Azerbaijan, stated the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundžić at an event within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

She noted that the EU attaches particular importance to applying a gender approach in combating the mine threat and provided support in creating the first female demining team in Azerbaijan:

"Negotiations are currently underway on a large-scale project with the Slovenian organization International Trust Fund for Enhancing Human Security. This project is aimed at strengthening the institutional and operational capacity of ANAMA. The project envisages specialized training of search dogs, provision of essential operational equipment, assistance to mine victims, as well as the supply of specialized ambulances. It is planned that these documents will be signed and implementation will begin in the near future."

The EU has always supported the transformation of mine-contaminated territories into safe lands.
