The creation of the Zangezur Corridor and the development of transport infrastructure could increase freight traffic through Azerbaijan by approximately 15 million tons per year, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan Districts, said at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that transport projects are a key element in the economic transformation of the liberated territories.
"The implementation of the Zangazur Corridor will create a ring railway network in the region and increase Azerbaijan's annual freight capacity by approximately 15 million tons," he said.
Hajiyev noted that a large-scale energy base based on renewable energy sources is also being developed in the region.
Specifically, a 240 MW solar power plant is being built in Jabrayil, along with another 100 MW project. Five hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of approximately 45 MW are also operating in the region.
"We are installing solar panels on rooftops, given the region's high solar potential," he noted.
According to him, energy development not only meets domestic needs but also creates export potential.
Hajiyev added that Jabrayil has an industrial park with 19 registered residents, enhancing the region's investment attractiveness.
He also noted that regional restoration includes the development of agriculture, logistics, tourism, and the mining industry.
Hajiyev also emphasized the strategic role of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, as well as infrastructure development, including the Horadiz-Agband highway, the railway line, and the bridge across the Araz River, which will strengthen regional integration.
Hajiyev added that the international airport in Zangilan is already improving the region's logistics capabilities and attracting investor interest.
