UN: Urban resilience cannot be reduced to physical infrastructure alone

Urban resilience cannot be reduced to physical infrastructure alone - it requires public trust and real participation by residents.

Report informs that António Sampaio, consultant to the UN Climate Security Mechanism, said this during a discussion held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

"Resilience is not only about flood barriers, drainage or cooling systems, although all these infrastructure elements are extremely important. It must also cover such factors as public trust, inclusiveness and participation," he said.

According to Sampaio, special attention in the future will need to be paid to strengthening local security services, as well as institutions that shape everyday security in informal settlements.
