Countries around the world need to update their national housing policies to reflect the changing nature of the housing crisis, Matthijs van Oostrum, representative of the Global Research and Analysis Division of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said at the event "From Policy to Impact: Scaling Up Housing Delivery" within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
According to Report, he noted that many countries adopted their national housing policies more than 10 years ago.
"They need to update housing policies to reflect the changing nature of the housing crisis. It is important to integrate national housing policy and legislation, as well as a comprehensive approach that takes into account various aspects of housing provision, with new global frameworks, including the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals," the UN-Habitat representative added.
He emphasized that the Open-Ended Working Group on Adequate Housing will also discuss issues related to integrated national housing policy through 2029, and that UN-Habitat expects new developments in this area.
