The transit time from the Azerbaijani border to the Georgian border points will be reduced to about three hours thanks to the construction of new highways, Rostomi Lezhava, executive director of Georgian Metro Logistics, said at the conference in Baku "Black Sea and Caspian Freight Forum 2025: Corridors, Cargo, Infrastructure," Report informs.
He noted that a number of strategically important projects are being implemented in Georgia to develop the Middle Corridor.
"One of them is the construction of the Anaklia deep-water port, which is scheduled to be completed by 2029. Once commissioned, it will be able to receive mother vessel class vessels and handle up to 18,000 containers. This will be a turning point not only for Georgia, but also for Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and China. In addition, new highways are being actively built that will directly connect Georgia with Azerbaijan. As a result, the transit time from the Azerbaijani border to the Georgian border points will be reduced to approximately three hours instead of the current five," Lezhava noted.
