Japan builds new TOD-based township north of Tokyo

A new township called Koshigaya Lake Town has been built north of Tokyo based on the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model, representative of Japan's Urban Renaissance Agency Fujita Ryo said at WUF13 in Baku.

According to Report, Fujita Ryo stated that the project included the construction of a new railway station and a large flood-control reservoir.

The township was designed around the reservoir with a focus on harmoniously integrating the urban environment with the waterfront area.

According to him, the total area of the project covers 226 hectares, including a 39-hectare reservoir.

He emphasized that, from a TOD perspective, most of the area was designed so that residents could reach the railway station within a 15-minute walk.
