Guinean Minister: Guinea plans 50,000 homes by 2030

Guinea plans to build 50,000 homes by 2030, Guinean Urbanization Minister Mohamed Lamine Sy Savane said during the ministerial roundtable at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.

He noted that housing is no longer just a matter of social policy but has become one of the key determinants of urban management, climate resilience, and economic transformation:

"Africa is currently experiencing one of the fastest urbanization processes in the world, which puts serious pressure on infrastructure, services, and housing provision. Rapid urbanization, the expansion of informal settlements, and cities' exposure to climate risks are among the main challenges in Guinea. Under the leadership of President Mamady Doumbouya, the country has entered a new phase of territorial development within the Simandou 2040 program. The government has launched major reforms in land and cadastre management, including digitalization of processes, securing land documents, improving registration mechanisms, and increasing transparency."

The minister explained that the housing program covers not only residential buildings, but also transport infrastructure, water supply, sewage systems, and urban connectivity:

"Projects to create new cities and integrated urban centers are also being implemented. In particular, projects along the strategic Simandou corridor aim to counter the urbanization pressures created by large industrial and logistics investments."
