China–Europe rail forum backs new initiative for Middle Corridor growth

A Joint Initiative on the high-quality development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) was signed at the 2nd China–Europe Express Railway Cooperation Forum, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Railways (ADY).

An ADY delegation led by Vice Chairman Arif Aghayev took part in the forum, which serves as a major platform for discussions on sustainable freight transport along the China–Europe route, strengthening Asia–Europe connectivity, and advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.

In his speech, Aghayev said Azerbaijan views China not only as a strategic trade partner but also as a reliable ally in transport and logistics. He emphasized that joint infrastructure and multimodal projects strengthen interregional links, accelerate logistics operations, diversify routes and boost export–import potential.

During the event, the ADY delegation also held meetings with senior representatives of China's Cosco, Huawei and CCCC companies to discuss cooperation prospects, regional freight transport and possible joint steps in digitalization.

Forum discussions focused on improving efficiency along the China–Europe Express Railway corridor, expanding freight capacity, building a modern international logistics system and enhancing land-based transport between East and West. Participants highlighted that safe, sustainable and competitive multimodal routes are crucial for the Belt and Road Initiative.

The forum concluded with the signing of the Joint Initiative, covering areas such as digital data exchange, tariff policy improvements, increased infrastructure investment and the development of green logistics practices.
