Baku shipyard to build container ships for AD Ports Group by 2028

Construction of two container ships at the Baku Shipyard, commissioned by Abu Dhabi Ports Company (AD Ports Group), is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

According to Report, citing AZCON Holding, this is the first order from an international company placed with the Baku Shipyard.

The project will be implemented under a contract for the construction and sale of two container vessels, signed the previous day in Shusha.

The agreement provides for the construction of two container ships with a capacity of 780 TEU each, designed to operate in the Caspian Sea. The vessels will be launched to optimize connections between the main trade hubs in the Caspian region.

"These vessels will play an important role in strengthening the Middle Corridor (the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route), which links Asia and Europe via the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus, and the Black Sea. By expanding shipping capacity along this vital route, the ships will help meet the rapidly growing demand for container transport, reduce transit times, and enhance the corridor"s competitiveness as a sustainable and secure alternative to traditional routes," AZCON Holding emphasized.
