Agency: Majority of Azerbaijanis lack access to modern wastewater services

A large portion of Azerbaijan's population still does not have access to modern wastewater services, Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA), said during the third day of Baku Climate Action Week 2025 (BCAW2025), Report informs.

Mikayilov pointed out that currently only about one-third of the population uses modern wastewater systems: "Reforms in this area are essential, and serious measures will be taken to expand coverage. Through new infrastructure projects, the adoption of advanced technologies, and effective management systems, access to wastewater services will be increased nationwide. Our goal is not only to ensure service access but also to strengthen environmental sustainability and public health."

The chairman underscored that these efforts will be implemented under the framework of the "National Strategy for Efficient Use of Water Resources" (2024–2040). He added that Azerbaijan could become a regional model in wastewater management.
