Azerbaijan to host EDSO General Assembly in 2027

The European Deaf Sport Organization (EDSO) General Assembly will be held in Azerbaijan in 2027 for the first time, according to the Azerbaijan Deaflympics Committee, Report informs.

Initiated by the Azerbaijan Deaflympics Committee, this event is expected to create significant opportunities for athletes with hearing impairments and further strengthen Azerbaijan's role in the Deaflympics movement.

Founded in 1983, EDSO includes over 1,000 sports clubs for people with hearing impairments from more than 40 countries, representing tens of thousands of athletes. It remains the most prominent institution for hearing-impaired athletes in the European region.

In April 2025, leadership from the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and EDSO are also expected to visit Azerbaijan for the first time, further deepening cooperation.

The Azerbaijan Deaflympics Committee, established in October 2023, works to develop physical education and sports among individuals with hearing impairments, promote their rehabilitation and social inclusion, and expand the range of Deaflympic sports nationwide. The committee became a full ICSD member in 2025.
