Azerbaijan, Iran discuss creating transport links between East Zangazur, Nakhchivan

At the Astara border checkpoint (on the Iranian territory), a meeting was held between the delegation led by the Chief of State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev, and the delegation headed by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Iran's Law Enforcement Command (also known as the Police Command), Major-General Qasem Rezaei, Report informs, citing the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current situation at the Azerbaijan–Iran state border and border checkpoints, measures taken to ensure border security, the organization of border protection in the liberated section of the Azerbaijan–Iran border, as well as the work carried out to establish new transport and communication links between Azerbaijan's East Zangazur economic region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The discussions highlighted the positive dynamics of cooperation between the border protection agencies of the two countries. The importance of strengthening joint efforts against smuggling, illegal circulation of narcotics and psychotropic substances, and other forms of cross-border crime was underlined.

Both sides noted that such meetings make a significant contribution to the development of relations between border protection agencies and to the strengthening of mutual cooperation.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of friendship, mutual trust, and understanding.
