Barat Yusubov: Every year, about 200 people need bone marrow transplants

Approximately 150-200 people in Azerbaijan require bone marrow transplants annually, and for many years, some of this need was met abroad, Yeni Klinika (New Clinic) Director Barat Yusubov said during a briefing at the medical facility, Report informs.

He noted that the Bone Marrow Transplant Center, which will operate within the clinic, will allow for both allogeneic and autologous transplants to be performed within the country.

"For patients suffering from diseases such as leukemia, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, this center will provide high-quality, integrated treatment conditions and significantly reduce dependence on foreign medical institutions," Yusubov said.

He added that, until now, the main reasons such a center had not been established were a lack of funding and a shortage of qualified specialists.
