Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day war created new opportunities both for the return of former IDPs to the liberated territories and for members of the West Azerbaijan Community, Ahliman Amiraslanov, chairman of the Council of Elders of the West Azerbaijan Community, said at the 9th Meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the TURKSOY Member States held April 7 at ADA University, Report informs.
Ahliman Amiraslanov stressed that the Armenian authorities are destroying all traces of the Azerbaijani cultural and religious heritage in every possible way: “The Blue Mosque, the only one preserved in Yerevan, is presented today as ‘Persian.’ The destruction of Azerbaijani cultural monuments violates our rights. We call on international organizations to call Armenia accountable for preservation of our cultural values,” Ahliman Amiraslanov said.
He also called for a special mission to be sent to Armenia to assess the situation, stressing that the West Azerbaijan Community is ready for cooperation with UNESCO.
