The United Nations has highly praised Azerbaijan's measures to improve road safety, the country's Foreign Ministry said following a meeting between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt.

The ministry said the sides discussed the agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, international collaboration on road safety, and global initiatives in the field.

Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's ongoing reforms aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, developing a safe, sustainable and modern transport system, and strengthening road safety. He emphasized the modernization of transport infrastructure, the introduction of digital solutions, and efforts to enhance traffic safety.

The minister also noted that major road and infrastructure projects are being implemented across the country, particularly in the territories liberated from occupation.

Todt briefed Bayramov on his activities as the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety, including efforts to prevent road traffic accidents and strengthen international cooperation in the sector.

He commended Azerbaijan's progress in improving road safety and stressed the importance of continuing cooperation in this area.
