Rossbach: Support for communities should begin at humanitarian planning stage

UN-Habitat believes that strengthening local communities should become part of recovery programs already at the humanitarian planning stage.

Report informs that UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach said this while speaking at an event on "Housing as a Foundation for Crisis Recovery and Reconstruction" held as part of WUF13.

According to her, even with limited funding, international organizations should plan in advance for mechanisms to strengthen social capital and support local communities.

"If we do not deliberately develop these areas, they will never develop," Rossbach said.

She emphasized that the existing international financing system already allows such approaches to be partially implemented without the need for a complete revision of the humanitarian aid structure.
