The drop in the Caspian Sea's water level is having a negative impact on the region's ecology and economy, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the 12th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Gabala.
According to Report, he emphasized the importance of digital monitoring of irrigation systems and enhancing the security of water resources.
"You know that the Caspian Sea is currently becoming shallower. This concerns us all. The Caspian is a unique symbol of the Turkic world - a connecting link between our peoples. The decline in the sea level in recent years has had a negative impact on the region"s ecology and economy. I raised this issue, which has global significance, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly. As neighboring brotherly countries, we must pay close attention to improving the condition of the Caspian. I call on the Turkic states to unite their efforts in this direction, develop joint projects, and support relevant international initiatives," the president said.
According to him, Kazakhstan plans to hold a Regional Summit titled "A Common Vision for a Sustainable Future" in April next year with the support of the United Nations.
"We expect that the Turkic states will take part in the forum and be represented at a high level," Tokayev added.
