Relations between Baku and Berlin are developing dynamically, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, according to Report's correspondent in Berlin.
"We are conducting a constructive dialogue with Azerbaijan regarding investments. The document signed today will further strengthen relations between the countries. I am very glad that relations between our countries are developing dynamically. This year, there is an intensive exchange between parliaments. By signing a joint declaration today, we are laying the foundation for the future development of our relations. In addition, today the establishment of the Germany-Azerbaijan Economic Council was agreed upon, and you participated in this ceremony. This is an important signal for companies of both countries. We are firmly determined to develop relations between Germany and Azerbaijan," he noted.
According to Merz, against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, cooperation in the field of oil and gas supply to Germany is of particular importance: "We discussed this issue in detail. We want to continue diversifying our energy supply with Azerbaijan's help. Today we also discussed the development of renewable energy and hydrogen energy."
He added that the parties are conducting constructive negotiations on the investment program proposed by Azerbaijan: "This program can also open new opportunities for German companies in Azerbaijan. The South Caucasus is gaining increasing importance as a connecting link between Europe and Asia. New transport and trade corridors create economic potential that we want to realize jointly."
