Japan funds drinking water projects in Azerbaijan's villages

Azerbaijan hosted a presentation ceremony for the project, Installation of a drinking water system in Gurbanchi village, Gobustan district, implemented under the Japanese government's Grassroots Human Security Grant Assistance program.
According to Report, the event was attended by Japan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Katsuya Watanabe, Head of the Gobustan District Executive Power Adil Mammadov, and representatives of the beneficiary organization, Gobustan Municipality.
The project aims to improve water infrastructure and living conditions in Gurbanchi and Arabshahverdi villages by repairing the existing 200‑ton water reservoir and constructing a new 60‑ton reservoir, along with installing a water pump, transformer, 6,600 meters of pipelines, and five tap‑stands. The Japanese government allocated a grant of $90,000 for the construction, equipment purchase, and installation of the system.
The Grassroots Human Security Grant Assistance program supports small‑scale projects in education, healthcare, public health, and other areas that directly benefit local communities.
To date, 287 projects have been implemented in Azerbaijan under this program, with total grants exceeding $24.255 million.
