There are currently more than 210,000 persons registered as missing by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said Ariane Bauer, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan, Report informs.
“We talk to mothers who still after decades jump at an unexpected knock on their door hoping it may be their long-missed son coming home,” she said, adding that the ICRC stands ready to support the authorities in investigating the fate of the missing.
“By marking the International Day of the Disappeared today, we want to stand by families of missing persons, express our solidarity and commemorate their missing relatives together with them. We want them to know that their loved ones are not forgotten and that they are not alone,” she said.
