Azerbaijani rep to UN: Strengthening ECOSOC is essential

Azerbaijan considers it important to strengthen the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in a future-oriented, inclusive, and results-driven manner, Elvin Ashrafzada, Deputy Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, said during an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of ECOSOC, Report informs.
Ashrafzada noted that the world is facing numerous challenges: "Amid rising inequality, accelerating impacts of climate change, financing gaps in economic development, and rapid technological progress, there is a need for a strong, reliable, coordinated, and inclusive council. This has never been more relevant. ECOSOC must be future-oriented as well as data-driven."
The official also emphasized that Azerbaijan, as a member state, reaffirms its commitment to a future-ready ECOSOC: "By hosting the World Urban Forum this year, Azerbaijan declares its readiness to contribute to discussions with policy-relevant input based on national experience. We are prepared for active cooperation to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, amplify the voices of developing countries, and ensure that global decisions translate into real impact."
