Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) continue to play a vital role in advancing the sustainable development agenda and raising public awareness in this area, Aygun Aliyeva, Executive Director of the Agency for State Support to NGOs of Azerbaijan, said at an event during WUF13, Report informs.
According to her, in recent years, Azerbaijan has developed an important institutional framework thanks to its green growth policy and sustainable development initiatives.
"The inclusion of green growth principles in the National Socioeconomic Development Priorities 'Azerbaijan 2030,' the implementation of the 'green energy zone' and 'smart settlements' concepts in liberated territories, and the strengthening of the climate agenda at COP29 demonstrate the country's systemic approach in this area," she said.
She emphasized the particularly important role of civil society institutions in this process.
"NGOs continue to contribute to raising public awareness through projects in the areas of environmental education, climate change adaptation, green urban initiatives, waste management, ecotourism, and youth engagement in sustainable development issues," Aliyeva emphasized.
