Establishing direct contacts between coffee exporters from Uganda and the Azerbaijani side will allow both countries to directly benefit from trade, Uganda's Ambassador to the UN in New York, Adonia Ayebare, said in an online speech at the conference dedicated to Africa Day 2026: "Rising Continent, Emerging Partnerships," held in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, Azerbaijan currently purchases Ugandan coffee through third parties, which, in the diplomat's opinion, needs to change.
"Uganda is one of the largest coffee producers in Africa. We have found out that Azerbaijan buys Ugandan coffee through intermediaries. I think this needs to be corrected," Ayebare noted.
The diplomat also noted that relations between Azerbaijan and African countries have noticeably strengthened in recent years, and one of the key factors in this process is the development of South–South cooperation.
"The current international economic and geopolitical situation requires closer cooperation among countries of the Global South," Ayebare emphasized.
He also recalled Azerbaijan's role in the Non-Aligned Movement and noted that the successful hosting of COP29 gave additional impetus to Azerbaijan's relations with African countries.
