Azerbaijan–Serbia Intergovernmental Commission to convene next month

On October 9, the 9th session of the Azerbaijan–Serbia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation is scheduled to take place in Belgrade, Report informs, referring to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Finance.

Azerbaijani Finance Minister Sahil Babayev, co-chair of the Commission, met with a Serbian delegation led by Ana Brnabić, President of the National Assembly of Serbia, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan. The meeting focused on strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries, implementing joint projects, exploring mutual investment opportunities, and discussing future cooperation prospects.

Babayev emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to enhancing strategic ties with Serbia across all sectors. He noted that inter-parliamentary relations and the Commission itself serve as key platforms for advancing bilateral relations. He recalled that the Commission"s 8th session, held in Baku in July 2024, introduced several important initiatives, and the next meeting is planned for the coming month.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that mutual investments between the two countries have increased, with trade turnover rising by 16.7% in 2024 to reach $190.3 million. Opportunities in energy, infrastructure, aviation, agriculture, and cultural-humanitarian sectors were noted as promising areas for mutually beneficial projects.

Brnabić, for her part, stated that relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are at a high level, built on mutual trust and friendship. She acknowledged the positive momentum in trade and economic ties but pointed out that current statistics do not fully reflect the real potential or match the level of political relations. She stressed that there is significant room to expand cooperation further.

Brnabić also noted that Azerbaijani investors are showing interest in investing in Serbia's real estate, agriculture, and other sectors.
