ADB ready to support Azerbaijan in attracting investment and technology

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to provide significant support to the Government of Azerbaijan in the areas of institutional development and policy, Sunnia Durrani Jamal, ADB Country Director for Azerbaijan, said during a panel discussion at the 2nd International Exhibition and Conference on Water Resources Management - Baku Water Week.

According to Report, she emphasized the important role of regional cooperation in resource management:

"First, we provide a platform for dialogue between countries. Second, we help with standardization, which is particularly important for trade. Third, we support countries in developing regional investment programs that can later be implemented by individual states or the private sector."

Jamal added that ADB promotes cooperation in water resource management across various regions.

She also highlighted the importance of investments in the water sector, noting several key areas:

"First, investments in data and technology are essential, including satellite data and sensor technologies for identifying water resources. The second area is ‘smart" meters, which are needed to monitor efficient water use in both industry and households. The third area is modeling and forecasting using artificial intelligence and ‘digital twins.""

Jamal further underlined the need for investments in restoring traditional infrastructure and adopting environmentally sustainable solutions:

"Watershed management, the construction of new reservoirs, and the reconstruction of pipelines and drainage systems are becoming particularly relevant for cities like Baku."

According to her, ADB implements projects that encompass both public and private investments, which is crucial for attracting foreign direct investment and introducing modern technologies:

"ADB can provide substantial support to Azerbaijan in these areas."
