WB recommends Azerbaijan to coordinate grid, generation planning

Azerbaijan needs to coordinate its energy grid planning with generation planning, World Bank Senior Energy Specialist Florian Kitt said in Baku at the Azerbaijan and Central Asia Green Energy Week 2025, Report informs.

"Following this, very detailed studies and calculations of generation costs, transmission costs, and potential markets for this energy need to be conducted in order to move more quickly toward unbundling the electricity sector," Kitt said.

He noted that this will create incentives for private sector investment in the country and will require a level playing field between large state-owned companies and new players.

He added that it is important to create conditions for the private sector to consider investment opportunities in the country with greater interest.

"We observed great satisfaction with the results of the country's first renewable energy auction. We believe this initiative needs to be expanded and deepened so that the government can fully exploit the potential for price reductions and obtain truly the best deals and most favorable tariffs," the senior specialist added.
