Azerbaijan–Türkiye climate, energy cooperation aids global transition

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the fields of climate and energy, along with the outcomes of the 2024 UN Global Climate Forum (COP29) held in Baku, is contributing to the acceleration of the energy transition for both countries and the global community, Mukhtar Babayev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues, said the 4th Azerbaijan–Türkiye Energy Forum held in Izmir, Report informs.

According to Babayev, Azerbaijan is expanding its climate and energy partnerships in light of the risks posed by climate change and the opportunities presented by the global energy transition.

He noted that Azerbaijan and Türkiye are currently implementing significant renewable energy projects:

"As the implementation of these projects speeds up, our cooperation becomes even more important. In particular, the memorandum of understanding signed between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Bulgaria, and Georgia on a new power transmission line is of historic importance for Europe's energy security and the welfare of our region."

Babayev emphasized that the forum plays a key role in exploring new cooperation opportunities based on existing agreements and broadening the prospects for both nations.

He added that the decisions and commitments adopted at COP29 will support both Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as the international community, in advancing ambitious energy initiatives.
