Azerbaijan to host first-ever D-8 energy ministers meeting

Azerbaijan will host the first-ever meeting of energy ministers of D-8 member states.

Report informs that Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov said this at the High-Level Energy and Urban Dialogue held as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

"In two weeks, we will host the first meeting of energy ministers of D-8 member states in Baku. During the meeting, the charter of the D-8 Climate and Energy Center will be presented. Headquartered in Azerbaijan, the center will serve as a regional hub for sustainable energy projects across D-8 member states and will act as a catalyst for renewable energy, energy efficiency and other climate-resilient initiatives," Shahbazov said.

According to the minister, the formation of a green energy zone in Karabakh and East Zangazur is being carried out on the basis of strategic concepts and carefully developed plans.

"Under this modern and integrated development framework, solar panels, energy-saving solutions and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles are being widely introduced in the region, while 1,650 megawatts of renewable energy capacity planned by 2030 is expected to reduce emissions by about 2 million tons annually," he said.

Shahbazov also noted that this integrated energy and urban planning model is being applied to other regions of Azerbaijan as well, and that this experience could serve as a practical example for D-8 countries.
