Azerbaijan's commercial offshore wind energy potential estimated at 38 GW

Azerbaijan has approximately 38 gigawatts of commercial offshore wind energy potential, Elchin Targuluyev, director of the Technology and Innovation Department at SOCAR Green, said during a panel discussion at the 31st International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition in Baku, Report informs.

"Offshore wind energy has enormous potential in the medium and long term. Azerbaijan occupies one of the world's leading positions in offshore wind energy potential: 157 gigawatts of technical capacity and approximately 38 gigawatts of commercial potential.

I would also like to note that our country has significant potential in bioenergy and geothermal energy, but these technologies are less commercially attractive and are currently primarily in the research phase. For this reason, progress in these areas is slower than in the more popular solar and wind energy solutions," Targuluyev emphasized.
