Azerbaijan is rapidly strengthening its status as a key energy hub in Eurasia, given that energy resources have become the primary tool of influence in the new geopolitical environment, Shahmar Hajiyev, department head at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), said at the first Azerbaijan-US Think Tank Forum, Report informs.
The expert emphasized that this is especially noticeable against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"Energy security has effectively become part of national security. Azerbaijan, together with Türkiye and Europe, has implemented a number of strategic projects, including the Southern Gas Corridor," Hajiyev noted.
According to him, energy and transport routes have become crucial for Eurasia, as they allow Europe to reduce its dependence on a single supplier, connect the resources of Central Asia and the Caspian region with European markets, and strengthen political and economic ties between countries.
"Azerbaijan serves as the main connecting point between the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, and Europe, creating new green corridors," the expert emphasized.
Hajiyev also highlighted the potential of multilateral cooperation formats, including the C6+1 platform, participation in which will open up new economic opportunities and expanded access to European markets for Azerbaijan.
