Azerbaijani student organization to be established at Harvard University

Work is underway at Harvard University to create an organization for Azerbaijani students, Gandab Mammadova, a second-year Harvard student, told Report's American bureau.

According to her, the initiative aims to unite students from Azerbaijan, promote Azerbaijani culture and history, and provide support to those coming to study in the United States.

"Harvard allows students to create their own organizations, reviews applications, and even provides financial assistance. I noticed that students from many countries, including Syria, have already established their own groups. We also want to help our compatriots and pave the way for talented youth from Azerbaijan to enter leading universities in the US," she said.

The student emphasized that there are many gifted young people in Azerbaijan, but some believe studying at Harvard is unattainable: "That’s not true. With proper preparation, it's possible to study not only at Harvard but also at other prestigious US universities."

Currently, only two students from Azerbaijan are studying at Harvard — Gandab Mammadova herself and Aila Aliyeva. Other Azerbaijani-origin students at the university are generally US-born.

According to her, the new organization will be open to all students connected to Azerbaijan. It is also expected to receive support from Azerbaijani students in other US universities. The initiative is backed by students from Italy, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Ukraine, and the US, who recognize the small size of the Azerbaijani student community at Harvard and are ready to help.
