Climate legislation and institutional strengthening discussed in Baku

As part of Baku Climate Action Week 2025 (BCAW2025), a high-level parliamentary roundtable on strengthening climate legislation and institutions was held.

According to Report, the event brought together members of the Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament), experts, and representatives of the private sector.

Discussions focused on how to build robust carbon markets and create an enabling environment for a fair and sustainable transition to net-zero emissions.

The event also featured the launch of the Azerbaijani-language edition of GLOBE's "Parliamentary Guide on Article 6 and Carbon Markets." This publication aims to support preparations for the Article 6 dialogue of the Paris Agreement at COP30, to be held in Belém, Brazil.

Participants shared experiences in climate legislation, examined the role of independent advisory councils, and emphasized the growing involvement of the private sector in implementing national climate plans.

It was noted that, amid projections of continued global temperature rise, legislative action, government oversight, and mobilizing public consensus play a critical role.
