Kazakhstan imposes six-month wheat imports ban

Starting July 27, 2026, Kazakhstan will impose a partial ban on wheat imports by road, water, and rail transport for a period of six months.

According to Report's Kazakhstan bureau, citing the country's Minister of Agriculture, the restrictions apply to supplies both from third countries and member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

It was noted that, as an exception, wheat imports by rail will be permitted for poultry and grain processing enterprises, licensed elevators, and the National Food Contract Corporation JSC.

At the same time, poultry and grain processing enterprises are prohibited from selling or exporting the imported wheat on the domestic market.

The ban does not apply to rail transit across Kazakhstan's territory or to shipments between EAEU countries.
