Azerbaijan participates in Global Forum on Green Agriculture

A delegation led by Azad Jafarli, Chief of Staff at Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture, took part in the Global Forum on Green Agriculture and 2nd Regional Science and Innovation Week for Europe and Central Asia, held in Budapest from September 9 to 11, Report informs, citing the ministry.

Rashad Huseynov, Director of the Agrarian Research Center, was also part of the delegation.

During the forum, Azad Jafarli delivered a presentation titled "Azerbaijan's Green Agriculture Policy," outlining the country's efforts to transition toward climate-resilient agriculture. He noted that Azerbaijan has significantly increased investments in sustainable farming in recent years.

The liberated territories of Karabakh and East Zangazur are being developed as green zones, with agricultural activities based on renewable energy, smart irrigation technologies, and modern logistics infrastructure, the official added.

Jafarli also highlighted the widespread implementation of the smart village concept in Azerbaijan, citing the pilot project in Aghali village, Zangilan district, as a model for integrating advanced agricultural technologies, renewable energy sources, and innovative social services.

He emphasized that climate-based agriculture has become a national priority, and detailed ongoing efforts to promote ecological farming, introduce water- and energy-efficient technologies, protect and improve soil quality, and reduce the impact of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. He also spoke about government support measures, including targeted subsidies and certification schemes to encourage organic farming and reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Farmers using modern irrigation systems are also eligible for state assistance.
