Florian Sengstschmid: Azerbaijan's health tourism integrated into global market

Azerbaijan's health tourism is integrated into a global market expected to reach $1.4 trillion by 2030, Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, said on the second day of the 1st Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2025) in Baku, Report informs.

Health tourism is one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors in the world, he noted.

"By 2030, the market is projected to reach $1.4 trillion. Medical tourism will account for approximately $300 billion of this. The State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan is developing specific plans to ensure the country's niche in this large market," Sengstschmid said.

The head of the board also outlined priority measures for the development of medical tourism in the country: first and foremost, a governance and regulatory structure must be established.

"The application of global accreditation and healthcare standards is essential. The next stage will create conditions for new types of businesses, such as wellness services and specialized transportation. This sector offers significant opportunities for both public and private investment," he added.
