Deputy minister: Ganja stadium to host various international events in the future

In the future, Ganja Stadium will host not only football matches but also a variety of international sporting events, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Elmir Mehdiyev told journalists, according to Report's western bureau.

He noted that the city"s stadium, originally opened in 1964, had become dilapidated after many years of use.

"In October 2023, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to build a new stadium in Ganja. The foundation was laid by the head of state in April last year. In August of this year, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva inspected the progress of the stadium"s construction," Mehdiyev said.

He noted that the new stadium, covering more than 10 hectares, has a seating capacity of 15,343. "The arena, built to UEFA Category 4 standards, is equipped with modern lighting, acoustics, broadcasting, internet, and security systems."

Mehdiyev added that the stadium has already passed its first major test, hosting the opening ceremony of the 3rd CIS Games on September 28. In the future, it will welcome both football competitions and other prestigious international events.

On September 27, President Ilham Aliyev took part in the official opening of Ganja Stadium.
